FireFox vs. Evil

As previously a long-time fan of KDE (the K Desktop Enviornment), and particularly because I am a fan of the Command Line Interface, I've appreciated that the only syntactical difference between a path in the CLI and a URL in the GUI was the prefix: "file://", which has demonstrated again and again the superiority of the file browser (and web browser) Konqueror. I ran my Konqueror in fully locked-down secure mode, with Java and Javascript disabled, no cache or cookies, Flash handled by Gnash/Klash, and only when I am so stupid as to delude myself into thinking I might really need to access web content available only from dysfunctional websites which demand the use of Javascript, do I even consider, and then enable such, as an exception managed by NoScript in Firefox:

Sysadmin

Well, times have changed, Konqueror more or less got superseded by Dolphin, and the neat and efficient KDE 3 gave way to much prettier and less usable reinventions, and now the Gnome desktop has also been taken over by changes I'm not fond of, so, like Linus himself, I'm moving on to the XFCE desktop, on Debian Stable, giving up all of the *buntus now that Mark has chosen to turn it into a smartphone interface. So, I'm exploring the default Thunar file management application, and staying with FireFox, though you might not recognize it, as I'm doing my best to adapt to Pentadactyl.

I can barely believe that I've stepped backwards in time by an entire decade in computing technology, by purchasing the very latest and greatest laptop hardware, it's not yet been backwards engineered for there to be hardware drivers developed for it for Linux, therefore, I'm having to accept that "Windows 7™" is my set of hardware drivers, and that I run Debian Stable in VirtualBox on top of that. What can't I beleive? that after a weeks use of their craptastic NTFS file sytem, it's taking damn near an entire day to defrag the disk space, something I haven't experienced since Mac OS 9 was retired, and I switched fully to Linux™. Long live Sir Bill Gates, just keep him away from designing computer software! UNIXen and Linux™en have been able to keep their disks automatically continually defragged for over a decade... what's wrong with this picture? And NTFS can't handle file links? OMG welcome to the '80's. I can't wait to remove the windows layer out from under my Linux™.

I conntinue my process of installing, configuring, learning, and adapting...
from (K)Ubuntu (Studio) to Debian Stable, from KDE to XFCE,
from Kmail to Mutt, from Kaddressbook to abook, from Konqueror to Thunar...
from Ubuntu Server to Drobo, etc... yeah, quite a learning curve, and... through it all, maintaining and developing sysadmin skills.
